Bravng the blustery conditions to share the spoils

In tricky weather conditions Bourne Deepings fleet was despatched and while the 2nd string went straight for the heart of Cambridge, the mens 3rds hoisted the mail sail to attack the South.
A top of the table clash in which the pace of the home team required maximum concentration amd commitment to ensure chances were lifted. In fairness, Kenny had a quieter game than in last week's 1.0 win but along side Wilmot, Taylor and Rehman provided usual efficient defence.
Cox, smoothly transitioned into in a more defensive midfield role this week, took sporadic chances to advance, and again Waters was a dependable attacking threat, wide right this week.
The first half was an even affair and the dragons were able to assert pressure moving forward. Ian Sanderson was a focus, and held the ball well in the centre and although not always successful, they did have some success in shorter interplay drawing in the South players and so giving space when the ball could be released.
It was Bourne Deeping who stru k the first blow; waters held the ball and with a well timed pass around the corner allowed Moisey to make ground, into the D with the inevitable penalty corner following. Not much room for the execution, but the ball found its way to the alert Waters who gleefully finished.
1.0 ahead at the break and the commitment to travel was paying dividend. 35 minutes ahead and then a Christmas break, give it everything and see what happens. Canbs South piled on the pressure, pouncing on any misplaced passes and flooding forward, they were more successful as Bourne Deeping found it difficult to retain possession. Lewis Gray was a willing runner to give assistance, Richard Gray was forming a closer relationship with the South centre back, but worked incredibly hard for the cause with a minor blip for a green card late on.
The pressure mounted, the home team were awarded a succession of penalty corners as the umpire tried to fill his bingo card as re-awards for defenders foot offences, and eventually a deflected equaliser and the match was all square.
Bourne Deeping needed to dig deep, fleeting chances and penalty corners did present themselves, Aaron Waters cut along the baseline but couldn't quite link with sanderson whose shot went wide, Cox drew a sharp save from the South keeper.
But untruth the balance of play was in the other direction, Wooldridge and Middlemiss into tackles to hold what they had worked so hard for, and on the final whistle, Rameez read the penalty corner to deflect to safety and a point a piece was probably a fair reflection of an excellent contest.
