Saturday was a lovely day, the A1 was a dream. Despite it being a tad on the cold side, the sun was shining it’s beautiful shine. The pitch had nicely defrosted, expertly checked by Jenny Williams and the game was eventually declared a goer.
The Dragons warmed up in woolies and thawed just in time for the first push back.
Some fine hockey was played from both teams. But after a bit of this, a bit of that and a bit of this, that and the other, a mighty goal was scored by megastar Dragon Ella Henson 1-0. But it wasn’t all roses for the dragons and pressure was felt by the defence. Stand out player of the game, keeper Eliana Russo, welcomed the opportunity to save a flick like a legend. High and wide. Keeps was chuffed. Still 1-0.
A goal first half was much needed, but it was all to play for in the next 35.
The second half was tense. Cambridge found the backboard. 1-1. But Keeps Eliana was sure that no other attempt would be successful. She leaped, lunged and logged and saved the day, particularly when the team suffered a man down for 5. New kid Katie Petherbridge, a clear stickler for the rules unfortunately was given her marching orders for her chat.
It all ended well. A draws a draw, a points a point. Teas were lovely and the journey back was delightful.
