On the 27 of November, a chilly day, Bourne Deeping ladies 1st team played Long Sutton on home ground. Dressed for the winter, they played a concise match with excellent attacking and movement.
Starting with the icy wind blowing behind them, we started powerfully, spreading the ball out to the wings where Libby Moore and Helena Darragh awaited. Many times they made excellent runs, bringing the ball to the baseline where Ella Henson, Alessia Russo and Keira Marxey were ready to collect it to pound onto the defensive line.
After a few unfortunate missed opportunities, Maxey finally scored a brilliant timed goal, shifting the Dragons upwards by a goal. After their lead had been seamlessly established, the Dragons began to attract goals like magnets. With Russo on the scoresheet next with a supremely skilful goal from a turnaround. Whilst Long Sutton prevailed magnificently in defence, making fantastic runs, it was all for nought as the ball was crossed right to Darragh who then scored another great goal. with the scoreline being 3-0 at half time the Dragons were eager to double during the second half.
It then seemed to onlookers that everyone wanted a chance at goal, and next up was Carol Murray, who had been solid in the middle field, and now plowed through defence and with a mighty hit, she had given the dragons another goal.
All throughout the dragon’s defence remained strong; Alice Brookes and Caroline Gedds and Kirsty Martin halting the opposition marvellously.
Moore's link up play from Martin then appeared from the left wing to receive and score the ball wonderfully, closely followed by Emily Murray who hit in a terrific goal from top D. Finally Maxey managed another goal, altogether placing the Dragons final sore at 7-0.
