The Dragons got a point

In the battle of the dragons versus the pelicans, possession was very much in the dragons favour from the get go. Working the ball well together with some excellent set pieces along the wings and using the middled well, dragons were attacking the D calling on the pelicans defence however failing to convert anything early with plenty of opportunities for the dragons forwards to get a look in. Finally, the ball found its way to Grace Gowing who deftly dodged the defenders and faced with a one on one with the keeper cracked it into the back of the net. The dragons were in business. Ready for more and wanting to set a clear buffer, they rallied again and Grace Gowing got another goal past their strong keeper. The pelicans did not give up and managed to win back a goal before the end of the second half after a bit of scrappy play in the D. The dragons continued to have the highest possession for the second half winning a short corner, which, despite a fluky injection from Helena Darragh missing the top of the D, it was picked up by the supporting members of the team passed amongst Jenny Williams, Carol Murray and Grace Gowing to find the end of Keira's stick bringing the score to 3-1. Play settled for a little as the dragons sought to maintain their lead however the pelicans fought back and after a couple of group attacks on goal found the backboard, 3-2. It became a very tense game as the dragons tried to hold on to their lead and put more space between the pelicans with more missed opportunities on goal. With just minutes left, the pelicans brought their whole team up and a rather chaotic messy onslaught in the D won them a short, which was well defended by the dragons, defence who played excellently Alice Brookes (making an incredible save on the line!), Caroline Geddes and Viv Carveth but refused to let the ball drift back towards their half. After scrabbling about and with seconds to go, the ball trickled over the line. Final score, a disappointing 3-3. Player of the match, Grace Gowing for her cracking goals.
