Bourne Deeping's U16s came together for their first game as they took on Kettering U16s at Stamford Junior School.
A goal from Kiera in the opening ten minutes set them on their way as Bourne Deeping started to take control of the midfield with Emma, Tash and Elizabeth battling hard to win the ball and feeding Penny and Libby out wide. Sian showed great skills in the middle with some mazy dribbling, with Lucy and Daisy making great attacking runs up front.
Kettering meanwhile refused to crumble after conceding the early goal, and Bourne Deeping's back three of Sophia, Emily and Norah, marshalled by the ever alert Elyza in goal, had to be on their toes as Kettering looked to catch them on the counter attack. However Bourne Deeping were disciplined, kept their shape, and a combination of excellent channelling and strong block tackles from the midfield / defenders kept Kettering outside the D as the Dragons ended the half with their 1-0 lead deservedly intact.
The second half saw Bourne Deeping look to extend their lead and it wasn't long before Daisy found herself (like all good strikers do) in the right place at the right time for a far post tap in to double the home side's lead and settle the nerves of the crowd as Bourne Deeping began to turn the screw. The girls had worked hard at training during the week on their penalty corner routines, and soon reaped the benefit when a thumping shot from Tash at the top of the D made it 3-0 and from then on there was no way back for Kettering.
A great start to the campaign and a great team performance.
Big thanks to all the parents / supporters and Richard and Sharon for coaching and managing the team.
